Erotic Nights of the Living Dead (1980)

psychosylum | Zombie Movie News | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

AKA: Sexy Nights of the Living Dead

Erotic Night of the living deadGather around the boob tube, it’s a reunion of the cast from Porno Holocaust and this time they invited the stunning Laura Gemser! OK, technically Porno came out after Erotic, but you get my drift. D’Amato has brought together the gang for, well, basically the same movie as last time. Why? Who the hell knows, but God knows I will watch it if Joe makes it.

John (porn actor, Mark Shannon), is an archaeologist/businessman who buys a cursed island inhabited by the walking dead to develop it for tourists. So he employs boat Captain Larry (D’Amato staple, George Eastman) to take him and his um, date (read: ho-bag he met at his hotel) to the island. But first he gets a couple other local whores and they have some of the sexy time. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the only “hardcore” scene in the movie. Unless, of course, you count a stripper squatting on a champagne bottle and opening it with her lady curtains. But I digress…

Zombies at the Mall…How Predictable

Zombies at the Mall

Have you ever wondered why zombies always seem so attracted to malls in the movies? Oh wait, I get it now, it’s got to be all the consumerism. Well, true to the stories, zombies invaded a Madison mall on Black Friday, but not to consume brains.

No, these zombies were there to “encourage” folks to, “Shop….Shop…” As Madison’s finest zombiographer, I nearly escaped with my life and credit line maxed out. These zombies were out in protest of what is sometimes viewed as mindless and unnecessary consumerism. Handing out papers explaining some of the views behind Buy Nothing Day.

While serenading the passersby with a zombie carol, security took over, doing a much better job than in the movies. In all fairness, these were very complacent zombies who saw their welcome warn and lurched back from whence they came.

Zombies prowl Livingston Co. for miniseries

psychosylum | Zombie Movie News | Wednesday, 28 November 2007

Source: http://www.lsj.com/

ZombiesWith the seemingly endless supply of zombie movies on the market, Oceola Township’s Jason “J.” Scott is hoping to take the genre in a new direction.

Scott is the filmmaker behind “Heaven’s Gate,” an Internet miniseries that has been shooting around Livingston County and will likely debut near the start of the new year.

“I like to look at it as the sequel to every zombie movie ever made,” Scott, 33, said. “Most (zombie) movies take place in the city; they show all the destruction - this is the country’s point of view.”

The premise is that survivors have taken refuge at a former cult compound, which was taken over by the government and turned into a storage facility for disaster relief.

Scott said it’s focused on the people who didn’t have to deal with the initial blast.

“They knew it was coming and they prepared for it while everything is slowly creeping their way,” Scott said.

Actors have been busy at work at several Livingston County sites, including the Fowlerville Fairgrounds, Hell Survivors paintball range, underneath Mr. B’s Rustic Tavern in Howell and downtown Howell itself.

Some shooting days have gone as long as 12 hours, and during one recent shoot, 35 people from the community came out to show off their zombie skills.

“It’s a pretty rough set,” said co-producer Russ Fox. “We’re the toughest set in Michigan to work, but, when it’s all done, everybody seems to be pretty happy.”

Scott says the biggest challenge has been trying to find local talent and shooting locations for no cost, but that it has all worked out. It helps that Fox is with Effenar Productions, which arranges entertainment for the Fowlerville Family Fair.

The idea for the miniseries was actually first pitched about a year ago, when Scott competed in a contest for amateur filmmakers.

The winner’s pitch would be turned into a TV show. Scott finished second out of 80 competitors.

“But, unfortunately, second place didn’t win anything; only first place did,” Scott said.

Scott has a brief background in shooting film - he has taped matches for friends who are involved with mixed martial arts; however, his day job is as a commercial carpenter.

He has his own production company, Biorhythm North Production Group, and he plans on shooting a movie next year called “The Brawler,” which he described as a cross between Johnny Cash’s classic track “A Boy Named Sue” and the Clint Eastwood flick “Every Which Way But Loose.”

But the current focus is on wrapping up the miniseries. If the first few episodes do well, Scott said he might scrap the fifth episode, which is meant to provide closure to the series, and keep cranking out more installments.

“It goes beyond being a zombie flick,” Scott said. “There’s actually a lot of conflict between characters. It’s almost how two groups survive side-by-side.”

Filmmaker Romero teams with Pa. writer for horror anthology

psychosylum | George A. Romero | Monday, 26 November 2007

Source: http://www.pennlive.com/

The creator of “Night of the Living Dead” will partner with a writer-actor from western Pennsylvania to film a horror anthology in Fayette County.

Pittsburgh-based filmmaker George A. Romero is collaborating with Jeff Monahan to make “George A. Romero Presents … Deadtime Stories.”

“I’ve been working on a couple of different projects with George,” said Monahan, a Connellsville-based actor who appeared in the films “Lone Star” and Romero’s “Bruiser.”

Each installment of the anthology will consist of three stories and will be suitable for a DVD or cable TV release, Monahan said. A few distributors have expressed interest in the project, he said.

Filming of the first story, “Dust,” is scheduled to begin Monday at the Penn State campus in Fayette County, as well as a house and graveyard in Connellsville, Monahan said.

“It’s wild, crazy and twisted,” Monahan said of the story.

Monahan said he plans to direct the second story, “On Sabbath Hill,” to be shot the following week in Uniontown and at Seton Hill University in Greensburg. He said he is still choosing the third story.

The first anthology is to be released in the spring, and if it is successful, Monahan plans to begin shooting the second volume around the same time. He said he expects to film most of the episodes in southwestern Pennsylvania and New York.

“We want to keep most of it close to home,” he said.

Romero is best-known for his “Dead” films: “Night of the Living Dead,” “Dawn of the Dead,” “Day of the Dead” and “Land of the Dead.” His other movies include “The Dark Half,” “Monkey Shines” and “Martin.”

Undead rise for city zombie-fest

psychosylum | Zombie News | Saturday, 24 November 2007

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/

ZombiesSome may argue the sight of zombies roaming the streets of Cardiff after dark is a common sight.

But for once the rising of the undead at a city nightclub to the sound of Michael Jackson’s Thriller was not entirely alcohol-induced.

Blood-dripping zombies gathered at the nightclub to try to break the world record for the largest “zombie walk”.

Although they failed, organisers say the 282 zombies who turned up could have set a Welsh record.

The current “zombie walk” world record was set last year when 894 ghouls rose from their graves at the Monroeville shopping mall near Pittsburgh, USA.

Last month an estimated 1,100 people gathered at the same mall - which was the setting for the zombie film Dawn of the Dead.

But 29-year-old Antony Lane, one of the Newport film graduates behind the Welsh zombie-fest, said that gathering had yet to be verified by the Guinness Book of Records.

He said they had been hoping over a thousand people would take part in the Cardiff event on Wednesday night and had set up a Facebook and a MySpace page to publicise it.

Despite not reaching the world record, Mr Lane said he thought the event may have set a Welsh record and hoped the evening had made plenty of money for charity.

He added as well as fundraising, the event in Cardiff was an opportunity to scout for extras for a film his company, Indywood, plan to shoot next year.

“Zombie Gatherings have become an institution in the States as a way of raising money and awareness, so I figured why not give Wales a chance to beat the record,” he said.

Dawn of the X-Mas Tree Dead

psychosylum | Zombie Toys | Saturday, 24 November 2007

Source: http://www.slipperybrick.com/

Zombie OrnamentLooking for a way to show your love of the walking dead during the holiday season? Does the sight of holiday mall shoppers remind you of the shambling corpses from “Dawn of the Dead”? Or maybe you just want to make a statement about the commercialization of Christmas and figure that the best way to do that is by trimming your tree with a a zombie X-mas ornament?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above (or just think that zombies are neat) then think about picking up this ghoulish piece of holiday cheer. Sideshow Collectibles’ “The Dead” Ornament shows the attractive visage of a zombie rising above the crescent top of the bulb. Just in case your grandparents didn’t get the message when they first locked eyes with the ornament there is a bloody handprint design on the front of the bulb in bright Christmas cheery bloody red. Now if the zombie’s skin were discolored green it would be even more Christmas-y!

The Dead Ornament will set you back a low $9.99 but the cries of frightened children too afraid to rush under the Christmas tree and see this horrific face staring at them is certainly worth more than that price.

Soon the two friends save a lovely young gun-crazy woman named Betty, who becomes a source of rivalry between them. With hundreds of zombies out for a snack, the three try their best to blend in so as not become the next item on the menu.
